Belltrees celebrates 170 year history
The White family welcomed 550 people to the Homestead lawn to celebrate seven generations of the family being at Belltrees for 170 years as well as celebrating 125 years of the Belltrees Public School.
The aim was to have fun and re-create the Sports Days held after shearing one hundred years ago. There were 28 teams, with eight people in each team, made up of neighbours, contractors, employees, relations and friends challenging each other in the old, traditional games such as egg and spoon races, sack races, wheel-barrow races and tug-of-war.
Being the last weekend of the school holidays the children then enjoyed dancing to an old time band in the shearing shed and watching sheep shearing. A great time was had by all age groups.
Not many family businesses in Australia can boast of such loyalty, strength and unity over now seven generations.
